Who Represents Me in Lakewood City Council?

To answer that question, you first have to know in which ward you live.  Lakewood is divided into four wards, each electing its own representative, in addition to helping elect three at-large representatives (for a total of seven Council members) In effect, you and every other Lakewood resident is represented by three Council members:  one from your ward plus the two at-large Council reps.

Below are boundary guidelines for each of the four wards.  Caution:  if you live on one of the streets noted as a boundary, you should call the Council Office at 529-6055 to be determine the ward in which you live, since homes on the same boundary street can be in different wards depending on their addresses.  As a rule of thumb, you live in the following ward if you live within these geographic boundaries in Lakewood:

WARD 1

-- North Boundary: Lake Erie

-- South Boundary: City Limits at Fischer Road, and I-90.

-- West Boundary:  City Limits at Rocky River Metropark.

-- East Boundary:  Woodward Avenue (South from Detroit Ave. only), and Northland Ave. (North from Detroit Ave. only).

About Lakewood's System of City Government...

Lakewood’s City Charter provides for a Mayor-Council form of government.  We elect our Mayor every four years.  Council members also serve four-year terms, which are staggered.  Council members are ordinarily elected by the voters, but are sometimes appointed when there’s a need to fill unfinished terms of representatives between general elections.

Lakewood’s seven council members (one representing each of the four wards plus three who are at-large or city-wide representatives) meet the first and third Mondays of each month, at 7:30 p.m. in the City Hall second floor auditorium.  (Exceptions due to City-observed holidays Monday and Fridays.)

Council doesn’t meet during August when it is in summer recess, unless special meetings are called and for Council committee meetings.  Other Council meetings, such as committee meetings, are by law open to the public.  Council meeting dates and times are available by calling the Lakewood Legislative Information Line at 529-6055.

City Council maintains all meeting minutes and other records, provides information about city ordinances and resolutions, and provides voter registration.  For more information or guidance, call the Council Legislative Liaison at 529-6054.
